Kegel Exercises for Women
Kegel exercises are a series of exercises designed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in women. These exercises are often recommended by Doctor Bulao’s physiotherapists to help women recover from pelvic floor problems such as urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse.
To perform Kegel exercises, Our Physiotherapist follow these steps:
Identify the right muscles: To identify your pelvic floor muscles, try to stop the flow of urine mid-stream. The muscles you use to stop the flow are the pelvic floor muscles.
Isolate the right muscles: Once we have identified the right muscles, you can start doing Kegel exercises by contracting and relaxing these muscles.
Contract the muscles: To contract the pelvic floor muscles, you can imagine that you are trying to stop the flow of urine or prevent yourself from passing gas. Hold the contraction for 5 seconds, then relax for 5 seconds.
Repeat: Repeat the contraction and relaxation for 10-15 repetitions, 3-4 times a day.
It’s important to perform Kegel exercises correctly to ensure that you are targeting the right muscles and to avoid straining other muscles in the process. Doctor Bulao’s physiotherapist treatment can help you learn the proper technique and provide guidance on how to progress the exercises as your muscles become stronger.

Types of Kegel Exercises

There are several different types of Kegel exercises that can be performed under the guidance of a physiotherapist. Some of the most common types include:

Basic Kegels: This is the traditional form of Kegel exercises, where you simply contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles.

Slow Kegels: Similar to basic Kegels, but the contraction is slower and held for a longer duration. This type of exercise helps to increase endurance and overall strength in the pelvic floor muscles.

Quick Kegels: In this type of Kegel exercise, the pelvic floor muscles are contracted and relaxed quickly, several times in succession. This type of exercise is designed to improve the speed and power of muscle contractions.

Progressively Increasing Kegels: This type of Kegel exercise involves gradually increasing the length of time that the pelvic floor muscles are held in a contracted position. Over time, the goal is to be able to hold the contraction for longer and longer periods of time.

Kegels with resistance: This type of Kegel exercise involves using weights or other forms of resistance to increase the intensity of the workout. Resistance can be added in various forms, such as using pelvic weights or doing Kegels while holding a resistance band.

It’s important to perform these exercises under the guidance of a Doctor Bulao’s physiotherapist to ensure that they are done correctly and to avoid straining other muscles in the process. Our Doctor Bulao’s physiotherapist can also help you determine which types of exercises are best suited to your specific needs and guide you in gradually increasing the intensity of your workout over time.
